Man's Best Friend - A Dog

by Tara Bhushan

My artwork is created using watercolour pencils and acrylic paints, using the styles of realism and abstract together. Through this artwork, I am trying to portray the strength of a bond between a human and a dog. My painting is trying to show that even through times that aren't going the best direction (the background - abstract expressionism, meant to look like a mess!) the love between the dog and human always stays as it was. My goal is to show non-dog and non-animal lovers the power of this relationship through my artwork, because honestly, it's the best form of love there is.

Flying with Grandpa

by Ivy Pham

The work is a visual metaphor for of being on cloud 9—particularly the childhood memories and thrill of riding on my grandfather’s back, feeling as though I was flying through the sky.

Skeleton Ghost

by Samantha Browne

I had drawn the face of a woman and gave my artwork to a year 1 student to draw a body. They drew a ghost and told me that they wanted the artwork to be a skeleton ghost. I drew some extra ghosts around the middle one, and then coloured the artwork with watercolour.

Monster Z

by Lila

It's basically just supposed to be a serial killer flower. To me, this piece reminds me of when I first moved to Singapore and to Chatsworth.

Self-portrait

by Suah Han

This artwork is a large-scale self-portrait that took a long time to complete. I made this artwork to develop my art skills in portraits, and I learned about how to draw faces. It was drawn using charcoal on brown paper. Before I draw, I took a photo of myself with my classmate and used the lights to make more shadows. At first, I sketched with pencil on the paper very slightly and then made overall tones and added more details. I used white pencil to highlight the most bright part and used blending smudge to make a smooth transition. What I learned from this portrait is that I learned how to use many new art materials to draw. At first, I didn't know how to use charcoal so I only used pencil to draw and as I learned I could draw work in more diverse ways and express more details. and through this project I could know more about myself.

Self-portrait, 2022

by Yeoni Kim

This is my first large-scale self portrait. I used charcoals as materials for this drawing. The main message of the unit was that artists uses self-portrait to represent their identity and style. In this piece of drawing, I tried to strongly describe the facial expression. I also gave especially more effort on the shadows of the face. The strong focus of the eyes and the shadows are forming the strong expression of the face. From the process of this drawing, I learned many different new things such as the large meaning of portrait drawings, and method to draw a self-portrait on a large piece of paper.

My Shades

by Seoyun Kim

I was hesitant and felt no confidence in succeeding in this unit at the beginning since I had little experience in drawing self portraits, and it was my first time using these materials for an entire portrait though I had a bit of experience in using charcoal materials in the past.

It was difficult for me and I felt really bad because everyone in the class was working really fast, and their progression in their artwork was much more obvious compared to mine and I felt that nothing much was happening to my artwork. I thought that I wouldn’t be able to produce a good quality art piece before the deadline, however, I somehow managed.

In the end, I was satisfied with my final artwork, and I realised how much my ability to draw portraits as well as my ability to use the materials had grown compared to the beginning of the unit. This artwork is important to me because it is sort of like a milestone for me of using materials, in this case which was using charcoal.
